Saturday,
October 18 was a wonderful night at Limn
Gallery in San Francisco. The doors opened on a wonderland for children: a room of
chairs, full of life, waiting to be investigated, sat in, and loved by
them. Grownups enjoyed wine, great music and gorgeous flower arrangements
as they snacked on the most delicious food you could imagine, but the
kids, the KIDS really had a party. Sophie Maletsky of Sophie's
Stress-Free Soirees was there, with balloons and hula h oops,
a guitar and games, a craft table and a glue gun so kids could make their
own chairs to take home. When they were hungry they snacked on pbjs, ghost-crackers,
carrots and the most beautiful cookies in the world.
Chairs,
chairs chairs! There were chairs like one-eyed monsters, chairs like plumped-up
lips. Princess chairs, cowboy chairs, rabbits and space aliens. Painted,
collaged, upholstered, and embellished with found objects, there were
chairs you could live in and chairs that were just for looking at. There
were some chairs that were both art and environment. From Betty-Boop to
Ganesha, these chairs were personalities of their own and objects of curiosity.
Thank you so much to all the artists who donated their time and talent
to this event.
