Michele's Letter: in reponse to 9/11/01 events
On September 11, 2001, the world changed. All of
us at CFI are filled with sorrow over the unspeakable act that took the
lives of many innocent people, and changed our lives forever. But what
worries me most is what will become of this--the aftermath.
It could continue to take more lives. It could leave our children vulnerable
to fear and war. This, my dear friends is what I cannot bear to witness.
We must urge our President to act with sober restraint.
CFI will refocus its goals and mission to support children, during this
difficult time. We promise to move ahead and educate the public at large
on what it truly means to be a child-friendly society.
As Gandhi said sometime ago "If we want to have peace in the world we
must begin with the children." We will work hard to follow those simple
words with teaching respect and nurturance.
Remember how small our children are. It's up to us to protect and care
for them-- to keep their days simple and consistent, and to maintain their
dignity.
We cannot let their childhood be invaded, and we can certainly not let
them suffer. The cowardly act of terrorism deserves nothing from the world's
children. Let us join together and keep CFI going.
